Autoevaluation

I have to be honest , i have been slacking off this term . I have not been studying and been lazy . Even in the first long exam ,i never study and yet i pass because Frau Arroyo is such a nice and good teacher . As i promised in the first activity i would only refer to traditional study methods of reading and also conversing with German Major friends .But i havnt actually chat with them .But if there's one positive thing that i can say is that , i am enjoying the class . From discovering english derivatives of some german words and from learning some lessons about German lessons , waking up at 830 am is worth . I do agree that people nowadays are so competitive ,all they care about is grades ,well ofcourse grades matters but me , i believe that it should be passion .Even if i fail this course ,atleast i have fun and learn something .Well maybe i'll change in German 11 ,will see . Even this blog needs improvement . Ah ,a new resolution , perhaps i'll be more consistent in updating my blog .

Good bye Lenin

After watching that film ,i realized that its not only the french ,Italian and the Spaniards who makes great film in Europe .Germans do make good films particularly about their history .I use to study international relations and i am aware of the situation that was shown . I am aware that the Soviets where able to capture the eastern part of Germany and i even recalled the fear of the Nazi soldiers during the latter days of the war ,that they would rather choose to be captured by the Americans .Although the film is a cliche' , i felt a strong emotion for it somehow . I felt how much a son would show his love for his mother inspite of the bad conditions that happened . I also find the film as a good example of a political satire . Imagine ,comedy as a medium to explain the errors of the Soviet regime in Germany ,how the arrival of Burger king and Coca Cola would make a big difference in Berlin or how hard it would be to search for that pickle company that once monopolized the market and that Superstar Astraunaut who would just be a taxi driver ,funny isnt it .Although i find it as an observation that european loves narration compare to their counter parts . It seems that in every european film that i watch ,i always hear the voice of the protagonist ,well at least they do know how to make Art . I am thankful that Frau Arroyo gave me the opportunity to watch those type of film . I guess the movie is a example of how rich the culture of Germany was once .

First Activity

To be honest ,there are only some few words that we understand in the article and most of them comes from borrow english words but we still managed to get gist of what it is trying to imply . First gist that we are able to decipher , is that the article mentions the success of the movie Inglorious Bastards coming from big time movie critics . The word “Jäger” in our guest is a positive German adjective ,since it really sounds familiar whenever we try to recall all of our memories during our encounter with the German language before enrolling in this 10-11 class . 2nd gist that we were able to decipher is that this article is somehow trying to get the summary of the story ,the phrase “Nazi-Offiziere killen als Hobby” perhaps means Nazi officers being killed in the Lobby and as we recalled in the movie , the last scene would be the massacre of high profile Nazi officers inside the movie house such as Herman Goering .3rd gist would probably be how happy was Quentin Tarantino in the success of the Film when a German reporter interviewed him because the Freude as we recalled means happiness and it can be seen in the first segment of the article .And lastly the biggest gist that we were able to understand was the article announcing that Quentin Tarantino might make the adaptation of the highly renowned video game Far Cry because this phrase “Far Cry“ promoten” can be seen and this famous german Actor , Uwe Boll ,would play the role of the protagonist .

1st blog entry

Hallo ,ich heissen Ludvig ,perhaps the only German phrase that I can really say as of now .Anyway ,being myself once more ,indeed being irresponsible . I have forgotten to make the deadline for the completion of the first part of my portfolio .To begin with since this is my first part ,perhaps I can make a simple introduction upon my knowledge in the German language and culture . As a world war 2 history lover and a former student of international relations , two ideas always come to my mind about Germany .First the Nazi’s , I remember that when I use to study international relations at CSB ,one of my teacher assigned us to read some passages of “Hitler’s Mein Kampf” in English and after that I just realized how crazy ,evil and delusional that person was. Crazy in a sense that his obsession with his evil plan started just because some Art school did not accept him ,but he was actually a good artist ,after seeing one of his painitings in the passage .But my teacher was also crazy ,somehow he does sympathize with the idea’s of Hitler ,well I didn’t want to criticize him, for I was conscious of getting a high grade .But perhaps if Hitler would have been accepted in Art school then history would not be the same ,just like they say in Latin ,Ars longa vita brevis or Art is immortal even though life is short, people kill to for that stuff ,oopss sorry moving on . Second idea , The Wall ,not the song of Pink Floyd but the Berlin Wall , I always associate Germany with East and West but in a positive way , I find it brilliant how they managed to get well since they use to be the sick man of Europe .

Enough stereotyping moving on to the goal of this entry ,the question is what strategies would you apply in learning the language . One of the main strategy that I want to apply is trying to understand the language by heart just like what the French say “par Coeur “.In a sense of not translating word by word but by getting the meaning of something in its own kind .It is difficult but useful .I remember at the first day of class when Frau Arroyo told us that here were not spend our time conjugating verb or memorizing but perhaps what she mean is that trying to think like a German and that is learning by heart .Another strategy that I’ll apply is being practical ,since German is not my major neither minor ,if ever I am going to try to remember something ,would be the most useful in the future ,it would be a probability that I have to use my knowledge of this language sometime in the future . Lastly would be to have fun ,it seems that my perception of German as being the opposite of the Romance Language is completely false .It has been a week since were studying the language and German might require to have a stronger accent but I find as a beautiful language ,it reminds of ancient English just before being influence by French ,how cool is that , Uber cool .
